WHISTLE-STOP KOLKATA

Our seven hour late arrival to Kolkata having survived a "luxury" sleeper bus trip was a relief like none before. A sea of pretty vintage yellow taxis parked outside were all more than eager to take us to our desired destination. We were completely awe-struck by the sights from the car. Huge and powerful colonial buildings in a perfect state of crumbling disrepair, parkland galore, neon signs everywhere, not at all the image of Kolkota we had been expecting. We were intrigued.

A flying visit meant choosing just a few offerings so here's the short but sweet visual diary from Kolkata...

The cricket crazy Maidan, the Central Park of Kolkata...

The imposing memorial to the Queen Vic...

One night in Kolkata...

Big shout out to Mother T...

The dazzling Mullik Ghat flower market...

Kolkata, the city of surprises...
