FIRST STOP - CAIRO

Cairo is the busiest city I've ever seen, cars everywhere and not a white line on the road yet no crashes or pileups. All in constant car horn cacaphony... Stayed in a very cute little hostel called WAKE UP with really friendly helpful staff who helped us organise ourselves and explore more local areas of the city.

Started with the Egyptian Museum which houses the royal mummies really cool, if a bit disgusting too, great teeth though, some of them.

Walked to Zamalek and had a pizza coz it's very hard to get food in the days of Ramadan (we've still 3 days to go until Id-ul-Fitr celebrations and official end of fasting period). Zamalek is like a European(ish) part of cairo with many cafes etc. We smoked our first Shisha there too, apple flavoured.

If there's one thing you should see before you die it's the pyramids, well worth the effort, they're incredible! Maybe don't take the bus there though, took a while and ridiculously hot.

Spent one day in Old Cairo, the Islamic part, just when I thought the city couldn't be any busier. Had a gorgeous Koshari (the whole 2 Euro for meal + drinks for all 4 of us!). The most hectic bazaar I've seen, I can't believe that this bustle is on a daily basis. It must be so exhausting to live in Cairo.

Egyptians for the most part are extremely friendly and helpful, you get random people on the street welcoming you to Egypt and for suspicious westerners it's hard to get your head around the fact that they genuinely wish you a good time in their country.

We couldn't have wished for a better start of our world trip.
